I own Final Cut Version 6.0.6 and I purchased the Academic Version as I was in college when I got it. The logic board on my Mac Book Pro died and the computer had to be sent to Apple for repairs. The shop that sent it off made a clone of my hard drive and put it on their server before sending it away. I just got the computer back. It appears that everything was put back on the computer but Final Cut won't open...it is requesting a serial number. I found my serial number but discovered that above the serial number it says "Final Cut Studio 2 Academic" The discs also say version 2 on them...but the books that came with the software all say version 6. I don't remember ever upgrading. My fear is that if I enter the serial number it will potentially regress to version 2 Is that possible I can't afford to upgrade if that happens and I rely on this software for my job. Any info. would be appreciated! Thanks!
The file "Final Cut Studio System ID" is tied to the logic board. Your logic board changed so the file is no longer valid. Delete it and re-enter your serial number. The file can be found here: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps.
I use an imac. I currently use final cut studio 3. After approx. 2 maybe 3 weeks the software will stop working. It boots up to the registration screen. I will enter my name and the orginal serial number but it tells me the serial number is not valid. What is causing this and how can I prevent If I unload software and reload, it works but will kick me out again after uses.
I think now the file is called ProApps System ID or something similar... When I tried removing that file, it (finally) stopped asking for serial numbers (when you upgrade, it's two numbers you have to keep handy -- what a pain!).
