Best Place To Buy Doors !LINK!
Building a home and was curious where the best place to buy doors was? Of course the styles I like are popular and more expensive at places like Lowes and HD. I want 1 or 2 panel shaker style doors for the interior and I want 3/4 panel glass 4-Lite entry doors. I have 2 sets of french and 1 single door. I am not particular on the interior doors being solid or hollow, I just don't want them to sound cheap or be paper thin... TIA!

I think you need to be particular about where you'll have hollow or solid cores. A hollow core where a solid core is preferred may sound tinny but can do the job. Powder rooms, bathrooms (where needed), bedroom doors if adjacent to activity areas or corridors. I may be wrong but the cheapest doors are six panel hollow cores from anywhere including HD, Lowes or similar DIY stores. Price seems to go up with custom doors or with specific design, glass, french doors, size etc.
Through our building experience, my eyes were opened as to the usefulness (in both price and service) of local lumber yards (84, BFS, ABC, etc). Before building, I hadn't visited a lumber yard since my childhood (which was before stores like Lowes/HD were around) and just assumed that they were only for big builders, replaced by the big boxes for consumers like us. I found out quickly that wasn't so. If you need a can of Great Stuff or are building a doghouse, hit up Lowes/HD. If you are building anything with a substantial amount of lumber or building materials like doors, at least get a price from your lumber yards.

Door installation companies offer a variety of services, from new doors to replacements. These services can install all different types of designs and styles. They usually help with the entire process, from replacing and installing new doors to taking old doors away. Some companies manufacture and install their own doors, whereas with other companies you'll have the flexibility to buy your own doors with a different provider. You may be able to get a referral from the place you bought your millwork, or they may even offer installation, as well.
Installing a door is a skilled task. While it may be something you could take up as a DIY project, depending on the complexity and type of door you are installing, you may want to hire a professional door installer. If you are just going to change your pre-hung closet doors without replacing the frame, that may be something you can do yourself. But if you are thinking of replacing your existing main entry door, you will most likely be better off hiring a professional.
The type of door materials you select will depend on the location of your doors and your personal preference. For example, most interior doors are made of wood. However, you can choose between solid wood or hollow doors made of pressed board. As for entry front doors, these types of doors are solid, since they act as a security feature for your house or property.
To choose the proper jamb size, measure the height and width of the existing door jamb between the inside edges of the casing. Add 1/2 inch to the frame height and 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch to the width. The width of the door is measured across its face. Most doors are sold as 3-0 (36 inches) or wider.
Companies such as Lamson-Taylor, Pella, and Simpson discourage bowing and warping by laminating two pieces of wood to create the stiles and rails. Split construction is also used for door panels, but they have an insulation core. The result is a wood door with an insulation value of about R-5 compared with R-2 for conventional versions. These doors cost about $300 to $500.
Solid-wood doors cost the most. A 3-foot-wide x 6-foot 8-inch-high, six-panel pine door runs at least $600, while hardwood doors are even more expensive. Figure on about $2,000 to $4,000 for a complete system that includes a prehung door in its frame, hinges, locksets, sidelights, and weatherstripping.
When shopping for prefinished wood doors, look for durable stains and clear finishes, such as polyurethane. High-gloss sheens offer the best protection for painted doors. Whichever finish you choose, apply it to the top and bottom edges. This helps prevent a wood door from absorbing moisture and swelling.
Also look for careful detailing. As a rule, the more intricate the carvings and moldings, and the thicker and wider the stiles and rails, the better the door. The same goes for panel thickness. For example, the high-end doors from Nord have 1 3/8-inch panels compared with the 9/16- and 3/4-inch panels on low-end models. 041b061a72
